REPORT: Mercedes-Benz announcing hybrid offensive for NAIAS Detroit 2012

According to a recent report, Mercedes-Benz is set to debut two series-produced hybrid variants for the current E-Class at next month's NAIAS Detroit. We are talking about the new E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, which is destined to arrive on the European market during fall 2012, and the US-solely E 400 HYBRID. The first eco-friendly limousine makes use of the 2.1-litre 4-cylinder in-line diesel engine delivering 204 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. This diesel unit is working together with an electric powerplant offering 27 hp and 250 Nm. The hybrid package chosen to equip the E-Class manages to post an impressive average fuel consumption of just 4.2 litres/100 km and an emission level of 109 g CO2/km. The State-bound E 400 HYBRID is nearly identical to its sibling as the electric unit stays the same. The only difference is made by the addition of the 3.5-litre BlueDIRECT V6 petrol engine boasting 306 hp and 370 Nm.
