Mercedes-Benz is about to introduce the new A 25 AMG shortly after the market launch of the new generation A-Class in September. The compact sportscar promises to be the ultimate leader of the segment thanks to a series of special features that speak about the dynamic character of the car: the new supercharged gasoline unit, the integral traction system, the adaptive suspension and the multitude of ride management systems developed by AMG for a safe experience even at high speeds.The 2013 A 25 AMG will sport a newly engineered powerplant at the High Performance Powertrains department in Brixworth, UK: experts and technicians used F1 know-how to tweak the engine for maximum performance. While the total displacement of just two litres might not sound very moving, then prepare to hear the rumored value for the peak output: 350 hp. The impressive amount of power is achieved through high-pressure supercharging and intelligent cylinder management. With the reveal set for Paris Auto Salon this fall, the new S-Class should make an initial appearance in either late June or July. The trendsetter in the automotive industry enters the eighth model generation with a confident mission - to write a new chapter of the rich S-Class heritage book.The new S-Class will be, how else, the best high-end premium limousine. Powerful and astonishing in every sense, the W 222 will incorporate intelligent technology that make it look like a moving luxury Swiss watch. The MAGIC RIDE CONTROL, the Autonomous Driving System and the integrated @yourCOMAND telematics will celebrate world debut on the new S-Class.Furthermore, a new generation of active safety systems, such as the Speed Limit Assist or the Blind Spot Assist, will be available for the car as well. Powertrain will consist of the rear-driven MRA platform, on which new and efficient BlueDIRECT V6 and V8 engines, as well as an I4, a new V12 unit and several hybrid solutions, will be sitting on. A new automatic gearbox, featuring up to nine speeds, will also be launched with the W 222.The new generation of the S-Class goes on sale beginning with 2013 and we expect the entry-level version to be priced at over 75,000 euros in Germany. With the introduction of the new A-Class, Mercedes-Benz wants to grab a big slice of the market segment currently ruled by the premium rivals from Munich and Ingolstadt. Having caused a mass stir after the unveiling that took place in March at Geneva, the new compact hatchback from the Three-Pointed Star constructor comes fully prepared to win on all fields of battle with its direct competitors, the 1er and the A3. The comprehensive array of equipments and versions, designed to meet every customer desire, would not be complete without an AMG variant. The baby rocket from Affalterbach is bound to make its first appearance towards fall 2012, with the market launch planned for late this year or early 2013.Development for the new A 25 AMG is fully underway, with a test prototype being spotted recently in Germany. The compact sports car is destined to have a striking outfit in true AMG style: an aggressive front apron with generously dimensioned air takes, a single-slat grille, a lowered ride height, 19" or 20" forged alloy wheels with special design features, a rear diffuser and double exhausts for the back end. The racing atmosphere feels at home inside the A 25 AMG courtesy of the carbon fiber/aluminium trims, the deep tone, perforated and stitched leather upholstery, the bespoke instrument cluster and the all-round quality.Engineers from the High Performance Powertrains department of Mercedes-AMG, headquartered at Brixworth, UK, have readied a new petrol engine for this model: a 2.0-litre supercharged unit releasing a staggering 350 hp of peak output. Formula 1 know-how was also invested in the development of the new powerplant, which reportedly sports cylinder cut-off technology and further clever stuff from the motorsport world. To ensure more efficiency is achieved while the engine is functioning, AMG has also fitted this brand new unit with intelligent cylinder management programme for an accurate, spray-guided fuel injection, a revised exhaust system and the all so present ECO start/stop function. That huge amount of power will be smoothly transferred through a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission to all four wheels of the vehicle, as the new A 25 AMG runs on a new 4x4 sports traction system that promises to offer best dynamics and safety in class.According to latest reports, the new A 25 AMG will come in five-door body configuration only, as no three-door model is considered for the standard A-Class at the moment. While European stores are a certain destination, it remains unclear whether Mercedes-Benz will launch the A 25 AMG on the US market as well. For about one year, whenever we have mentioned the future compact class 4-door coupe model of Mercedes-Benz, we have referred to it as the CLC. The first confirmation of the respective title came in late April 2011 - then, a picture showcasing the forthcoming vehicles to be assembled at the Kecskemet plant was released by Daimler AG. Just recently, during his speech at the opening ceremony of the new Hungarian production facility, Dr. Dieter Zetsche is reported to have clearly stated a new name for the C 117 project: CLA.Early speculations on the new niche version, dating from 2009 and 2010, were talking about the possible badges such as CLA or BLS. The latter was dropped due to the similarity with the medium-sized limousine from the American constructor Cadillac. Moreso, the CLA sounded unlikely if we follow the entitling rule of the CLS, which is the 4-door coupe of the E-Class range placed below the S-Class. So, the CLC instantly came into focus, even though it was strongly related to the revamped, W 203-based 3-door hatchback variant of the C-Class W 204 generation, which has hardly been a popular model and was phased out early last year at the debut of the new C-Coupe.Now, the CLA name might sound a but confusing at first, because it does not obey the CLS principle, but we agree the "A" particle makes the car closer to one of the pioneers of the new compact portfolio of Mercedes-Benz: the A-Class. So, from now on, we shall too associate the C 117 with the CLA.First details on the new CLA-Class should be released during summer, whereas the official public unveiling could take place either at the Mondial de l'Automobile 2012 in Paris (29th September to 14th October) or Los Angeles Auto Show (30th November to 9th December). With an estimated entry price of €28,000 in Germany and underpinned by the new Mercedes Frontwheel Architecture, the CLA will display a complete array of frugal, low-displacement petrol and diesel engines, from 109 hp CLA 180 CDI up to the range-topping 211 hp CLA 250 variant. Next year, the lineup will be further enriched with a hot version from Affalterbach: the CLA 25 AMG is to feature a 350 hp 4-cylinder supercharged engine featuring F1-inspired technology and a permanent sports all-wheel-drive traction system. We have previously reported this news, but it's time to refresh your mind. During the speech of Daimler chief Dr. Dieter Zetsche, during which he outlined company's ambitious 2020 growth plan, held at the opening ceremony of the Hungarian-based Kecskemet plant, it became official the forthcoming generation of the S-Class will comprise an extended lineup of high-luxury variants. The new additions are said to be a convertible, a Pullman limousine and a 4-door coupe.With this strategy, Mercedes-Benz is on the trail of having world's most complete fleet high-class cars. One of the reasons of the expansion in this exquisite market segment is the announced demise of the Maybach brand in 2013. Filling the empty space with niche vehicle, that have a pronounced grade of public appeal, especially luxury models, is exactly the right path to go and nonetheless the solution that would have brought a brighter outcome for the old, dying Maybach.
The first S-Class of the 222 series to make debut this year is the standard wheelbase limousine, codenamed W 222. During 2013, the long wheelbase model (V 222 ??) along with the S-Class Coupe (C 222) are to be unleashed by Mercedes-Benz. Approximately one year after the discontinuation of Maybach, the replacement is set to arrive in the form of the new S-Class Pullman extended wheelbase saloon (X 222 ??). In 2015, we should see the first incarnation of the 2007 Ocean Drive Concept as the S-Class Cabriolet (A 222 ??), that could have four doors like the showcar, will reportedly be introduced. Approaching 2016, the German carmaker will further enrich the S-Class portfolio with a brand new four-door coupe (S 222 ??).
Along with these new additions, Mercedes-Benz will also develop a comprehensive array of leading technical innovations in the dynamics, safety and car communication areas. Also, a full range of more economical, yet powerful internal combustion (gasoline, diesel and diesel BlueTEC) engines in I4, V6 (and/or I6?), V8 and V12 cylinder configurations will make their entrance in the scene to replace the current powerplants. The ride will be further optimized thanks to the extensive measures included in the BlueEFFICIENCY eco-friendly package. Development for the new CLC-Class, internally codenamed C 117, began during summer 2011 and, at the moment, the future compact 4-door coupe is approaching the middle of the experimental phase. With this model, Mercedes-Benz aims to expand its new compact class portfolio - the technical basis for the CLC will be the modular MFA front-driven platform, already underpinning the new A-Class and B-Class generations.The CLC-Class is obviously a smaller alternative to the ol' daddy CLS, but in no way inferior to the business 4-door coupe. Its powerful attributes are the youthful outer styling boasting the coupe-ish dropping roofline, the traditional Mercedes-Benz luxury interior, smart technologies such as the comprehensive array of safety systems and the latest generation of clever telematics. Last, but not least, the CLC will feature a complete lineup of new, efficient petrol and diesel engines with peak outputs ranging from 109 hp to 211 hp. Starting 2013, a CLC 25 AMG sports version is due to hit streets. Following the A 25 AMG example, it will too boast 4x4 traction and 350 hp out of a 2.0-litre supercharged 4-cylinder gasoline powerplant mastered by AMG's division of high performance powertrains headquartered at Brixworth, UK.
The series CLC-Class will be revealed at the Paris motor show this autumn, but we'll get a preview of the new car on 20th April, when the Concept Style Coupé makes its official appearance at the Mercedes-Benz Transmission LA:AV CLUB festival.

Spring has come, so the test prototypes of future Mercs head over to the renowned Nurburgring track for a thorough shakedown. One of the first to have been spotted recently on the Nordschleife circuit is the forthcoming SLS AMG Black Series super-hot model. This new rocket tweaked in the Affalterbach labs is slated to make its official entrance on the automotive stage in the second part of this year. The Black Series 'gullwing' will benefit from a special treatment, which aims to deliver a spectacular visual result as well as top performance figures. The car has already underwent a strict diet to lose the extra, unnecessary kilograms that might affect the desired sports ride. Moreso, further aerodynamic body elements make up an aggressive and dynamically eficient kit which looks to set the Black Series version apart from the standard SLS AMG and also to improve the drag coefficient (Cd) and lower the air resistance for the car to flow smoothly on the roads. The generous frontal air intakes help the huge V8 engine under the bonnet to cool down when pushed to its utmost limits. At the back end, a visible tail-mounted spoiler will add more grip to the rear axle to ensure the car stays firmly 'glued' to the ground. The new AMG hypercar will also receive a set of special dampers and springs, but also a high-performance brake system with perforated discs.
While there were initial rumors the SLS AMG Black Series would use a new biturbo V8 unit, it appears it will stick to the outgoing aspirated V8 engine, which has been modified to pump out no less than 661 hp and an enormous high-end torque reaching 750-800 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h will take less than 4 seconds, whereas the maximum speed could exceed well over 330 km/h. Power will be sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a modified 7-speed MCT SPEEDSHIFT gearbox designed to handle those numerous ponnies.

Under the hood, you'll find a brand new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine featuring Hyprex supercharging and F1-inspired technology courtesy of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains from Brixworth, United Kingdom. With the help of this new creation, Mercedes-AMG makes a clear statement: offer the most powerful sports hatchback on the market. According to internal sources, the unit will crank out no less than 350 hp. This is indeed a huge amount of power given the size of the A-Class, but to ensure more safety as well as superior dynamics, a new all-wheel-power platform is specially developed at the moment for the forthcoming A 25 AMG. Power will be sent to the four wheels via a 7-speed AMG MCT SPEEDSHIFT gearbox, whereas further appointments, including the 3-stage ESP and the AMG RIDE CONTROL, will complete the potency package of this 'wheeled bomb'.
We expect the new A 25 AMG to be priced at around 40,000 - 50,000 euros for the European market, with the start of sales programmed for the end of 2012. The car will also be available for purchase in the USA, but only beginning with spring/summer 2013.
