Last Monday the start was given for the fleet operation of the European lighthouse project, H2moves Scandinavia; a cooperation of European companies from the infrastructure and automobile sector. The aim is to demonstrate the market readiness of fuel cell vehicles and the push forward of hydrogen infrastructure. With this commitment the partners tie in seemlessly with the already existing European demonstration projects, in which the Daimler AG participates actively since many years.
Within the project period ten Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL among others will be delivered to selected customers and thus be present on Scandinavian roads. Under quite extreme Nordic weather conditions the vehicles prove again their suitablity for everyday use. “Electric vehicles with fuel cell are ready to enter the market and the serial production will commence already in 2014. But since alternative drives require alternative infrastructures, we closely work together with partners from governments, energy providers and several automobile manufacturers”, says Prof. Herbert Kohler, Vice President eDrive & Future Mobility of Daimler AG.
Also for the start of this fleet operation, the third Norwegian H2 fueling station has been inaugurated. The peculiarity: Its hyrogen production is based on only renewable sources. Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California and as is well-known proactive supporter of the fuel cell technology, afterwards opened the sixth annual ZERO Conference and emphasized the relevance of the future technology.
A road tour through five European cities, planned for 2012, will build a further milestone within the initative. Electric vehicles with fuel cell continue to take up speed: Here today – Everywhere tomorrow!
